The Ca Hue ( Hue traditional singing) genre has been recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The genre formed and developed in Thuan Hoa-Phu Xuan (now Thua Thien – Hue ) more than three centuries ago. It has increasingly attracted domestic and foreign audiences.
Ca Hue is performed along the Huong River , in chambers and hotels in Hue city and at important cultural events.
In an attempt to improve the quality of the traditional art, the authorities have issued regulations, including the length of each performance and the minimum of instruments and musicians required for each performance.
Recently, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has organised training programmes and licensed nearly 500 artists and musicians of the genre.
