Six Vietnamese students won two gold, three silver and one bronze medals at the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad in Chiang Mai, Thailand on July 4- 16, announced Ministry of Education and Training yesterday.
Accordingly, two gold medals went to Vu Xuan Trung, a 11th grader from Thai Binh High school; Nguyen The Hoan, a 12th grader student of High School for Gifted Students of Hanoi National University.
Three silver medals belonged to Hoang Anh Tai, a 12th grader student from Phan Boi Chau High school in Nghe An; Nguyen Tuan Hai Dang, a 12th grader from High School for Gifted Students of Hanoi National University; Nguyen Huy Hoang from Nang Khieu High school of HCMC National University. Meanwhile, Nguyen Thi Viet Ha, a 12th grader from Ha Tinh High school won one bronze medal.
As a result, Vietnam is ranked the fifth position of 104 delegations at the 2015 International Mathematical Olympiad after the United States, China, the Republic of Korea and North Korea.
The Ministry will hold a welcome ceremony to the winners and present certificate to them on July 16.
Earlier, Vietnam delegation won five medals at the 2015 International Physic Olympiad in India, including three gold and two silver medals.
The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually. The first IMO was taken place in 1959 in Romania.
